The input you give an LLM — the instructions, context, and data it responds to.

A prompt is everything you hand the model to act on: your question, examples, source data, and constraints. Output quality tracks prompt quality almost linearly — vague in, vague out. Good prompting is closer to writing a clear ticket for a contractor than typing a Google search: state the goal, show an example or two, and specify exactly what format you want back.
